Acne Scar Treatment

Acne Scar Treatment- Improve The Appearance And Health Of Your Skin After The Ravages Of Acne.

Acne is an embarrassing condition that can cause long term damage to the skin in the form of scars. After your skin clears up there are things that can be done to reduce the appearance of acne scars. The effectiveness of acne scar treatments will vary depending on the treatment as well as the severity of your acne scars. There are several topical treatments that can be used on acne scars: Retin-A, Mederma, Scarguard, and silicone dressing. Retin-A is a prescription cream made of retinoic acid. It removes the top layer of skin and may cause peeling, stinging and redness. Mederma is a over-the-counter compound containing onion extract; side effects may include itching and drying of the skin.

Scarguard is a combination of silicone and cortisone. Scarguard and silicone dressing is also available over-the-counter. These topical treatments are not nearly as effective as the acne scar treatments offered by dermatologists, but they are also a lot less expensive. These treatments will have the best results on very minor acne scars. Treatments administered by a dermatologist can be very effective in treating acne scars. Dermabrasion is a very popular treatment option. Dermabrasion is a treatment that involves using a high speed diamond brush to remove layers of the skin.

This method works well at removing shallow scars and reducing deeper scars. Dermbrasion may need to be repeated more than once for the best results. Laser resurfacing is also commonly used to remove or reduce acne scars. Lasers remove layers of skin so new, healthy skin can form. Laser resurfacing can be quite expensive, and there is a recovery time involved. Augmentation is a type of acne scar treatment that involves using a needle to inject a filler into the acne scar. The material used as fillers include body fat, collagen, or silicone. Body fat and collagen fillers do not provide permanent results; silicone is a permanent filler.
