Antibiotics For Acne

What Are Some Good Antibiotics For Acne That Really Work And Are Not Too Expensive?

Acne is one of the most common problems for both teenagers and adults, and unfortunately there is no magic pill that will cure all acne. Some doctors or dermatologists prescribe antibiotics for acne, and many seem to work very well. Some antibiotics for acne have side effects, while other antibiotics for acne can't be used if a person is pregnant or under a specific age. Antibiotics for acne work fairly well in getting rid of acne even if you have a severe case. There are five widely used antibiotics for acne and they include: Cortiscosteroids, Tetracycline, Minocycline and Doxycycline, Erythromycin, and Isotretinoin. Cortiscosteroids are very strong antibiotics for acne and should be used only for very bad cases of acne for short time as they are steroids which can cause infertility or have bad effects on the reproductive organs of young people, so many doctors do not use antibiotics for acne of this kind very often.

One of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics for acne is Tetracycline. This antibiotic is usually prescribed for moderate to severe acne and generally works very well, however it is not prescribed for children under the age of eight due to teeth staining and decreased bone development. Tetracycline is also not prescribed to women that are pregnant or nursing. Some other common side effects of these antibiotics for acne are sensitivity to the sun as well as nausea and diarrhea. Some other antibiotics for acne are Minocycline and Doxycycline. Doxycycline must be taken with a very large amount of water and has been associated with heart burn and sore throats.

Neither one of these antibiotics for acne should be prescribed to young children or to nursing or pregnant women. Erythromycin is another antibiotics for acne drug treatment. This medication is safe for pregnant women and children and is available in topical applications as well as oral tablets. For people who are allergic to cyclines or penicillin, Erythromycin is a good and safe alternative. A fairly new antibiotics for acne treatment drug is Isotretinoin and it is highly effective. This medication however has many severe side effects such as inflammatory bowel disease, erectile dysfunction, depression, and even birth defects. Before taking this drug, be sure to talk it over with your doctor or dermatologist. Sometimes the benefits will outweigh the side effects.
