Best Acne Products: How To Remove Unsightly And Unhealthy Blemishes And Stay Clear Forever After.

Acne vulgaris, commonly referred to simply as "acne," is a skin disease which affects a large portion of the population, usually first manifesting itself during adolescence. The ages of 13 - 21 are considered peak years for acne infection. Acne can lead to both physical skin problems and psychological issues. Thankfully, a number of products are available on the over-the-counter market which can contain and potentially cure acne problems. In severe cases, prescription medicine may be required to eradicate acne symptoms and infection. The most commonly used over-the-counter acne products rely on an active ingredient of benzoyl peroxide. This includes brand-name products like Proactive Solution, Neutrogena skiniD, and Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear, as well as a wide range of generic products marketed in drug stores and retail chains.

Benzoyl peroxide is considered a very effective and generally safe treatment for mild and moderate acne, and can be found at a reasonable cost nationwide. The chemical works by depriving acne-causing bacteria of oxygen, leading to their deaths. Negative side-effects can include excessive drying of the skin if applied in amounts beyond the recommended dosage, or if the user's skin is especially sensitive. Many over-the-counter acne treatments also include salicylic acid to actively fight acne. This chemical works by unclogging pores and allowing for new cell growth, which reduces the capability of bacteria and invasive foreign particles to cause acne.

When used in conjunction, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are highly effective at stopping mild to moderate acne and are one of the best acne products available. Serious acne, usually classified as cystic, may require a prescription to control. Isotretinon, sold in the United States under the brand-name Accutane, is the most well-known and considered the best acne product that can be prescribed. A Vitamin A derivative, isotretinon works to control sebum production and contain acne growth. It has a relatively dangerous safety profile compared to other acne treatments, and should only be used under watch of a licensed medical professional.
